FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Memindia?

Memindia is the name I’ve made up (which is pretty much necessary to trademark something, which I’d eventually like to do!) for the ministry media resources I’m creating and selling.  Look again at the tag line: finding the MINistry in MEDIA.  Get it?  MEDIA/MINistry, ME – MIN – DIA.  I hope to have an animation of the syllable MIN squeezing into the word MEDIA at some point!

So, what are Memindia exactly?  (Yep, the plural doesn’t involve an ’s,’ like deer.  If I get to make up a word, I get to make up the rules about it!)  It’s a resource provided to connect pieces of media to the Roman Catholic Faith.  In other words, what does the latest hip hop hit have to do with sacraments?  Or how does the most popular sitcom speak to morality (or often lack thereof)?  How does that summer blockbuster reveal something about prayer?  Where does a video sharing website connect to scripture?

The easiest way to understand Memindia is to look at one: visit the Free Samples page and see for yourself!

Who could use Memindia?

  • Parents
  • Youth Ministers
  • Directors of Religious Education
  • Directors of Adult Faith Formation
  • RCIA Team Members
  • Priests (want to punch up those homilies?!)
  • Anyone interested in learning more about Catholicism

What comes with a Memindia?

Each Memindia is a three page digital pdf file.  (That’s Portable Document Format – a computer file format for text that anyone can open and print with the free Adobe Reader software.)

Rather than read a boring description of the contents, you’ll get the idea much faster by checking out the Free Samples section where you’ll see examples of each of the media we’re currently producing.

Who writes Memindia?

Here’s another of those ‘right now vs. vision of the future’ answers.  Right now, I do.  Jerry Harrington, Director of Catholic Media Resources (CMR).  To read about me, you can visit the About Jerry page of the CMR website.

However, my vision here is that those who receive Memindia look at them and think to themselves: “I could write these.  I could write these even better than this Jerry guy.  I should be writing these.”  And my response will be: “Great!  Do it!”  I will provide you the template to fill in; you fill it in and submit it.  I will offer it on the site and you get a cut of the proceeds.  This part of the vision plugs directly into the vision piece above.  Apple doesn’t make the media; they sell it in iTunes.  For Memindia to be comprehensive (provide resources about every piece of media), the collective wisdom of educated and inspired Catholics must be brought together and then distributed for the benefit of the church.  That’s also why a crucial part of this website from launch is the Forum, a place where Catholics can discuss, disagree, and dialogue about all things Memindia.  My hope is that the Forum will quickly become a rich source of information, inspiration, and interaction among Catholics committed to seeing our world of media with the eyes of faith.
